I'm IUD Free!

I had my IUD removed last week. It was like a giant weight was lifted from my shoulders. The moment it came out my cramps stopped. I've since gotten my period though, and it's the same as it has been while using the Paragard, super heavy with pretty severe cramps. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my uterus needs to recover and that I'll get some relief next month.

In case you're wondering, no, we are not planning to start on another baby! I'm happy being a mommy of one for now (maybe even forever).

  1. Have you considered the Mirena instead of the Paragard? I had the P before my babe, with the same problems as you... super heavy flow and horrendous, had-to-be-medicated cramps. I have the Mirena now, and it is bliss!!

  2. Just be careful either way, I had the Mirena and had to have it surgically removed because it had perforated halfway through my uterus and they had no idea until after I had some issues with side effects. I was always tired and had no energy and was more crampy with periods...they tried to take it out in the office but it would budge so they scheduled for me to go to the hospital cause they thought I was not relaxed enough....turns out it was embedded in my uterus. lovely huh? Best of luck to you!

  3. Meegs, thanks for the suggestion. I chose the Paragard over the Mirena because the Mirena contains hormones while the Paragard doesn't. I've struggled with migraines for almost ten years, and they seem to be tied to my period, so I try to avoid all hormonal birth control.

  4. Love the blog! I hated IUD as well. Vasectomy, baby!
